The series is generously funded by Nancy and Stephen Scoper, M.D., through their gift to the University of Virginia, designated to Theological Horizons.

SPRING 2022: April 3rd, 3:30-5pm Old Cabell Hall, University of Virginia with Kate Bowler: “UNFINISHED: The Wisdom of the Generative Self”

Can we ever make spiritual sense of the good or bad in our lives?   Renowned scholar of the history of Christianity in North America, Duke University associate professor Kate Bowler has received widespread media attention and academic praise for scholarly studies of movements based on divine promises of health, wealth, and happiness. With the brave realism of a cruciform faith, Dr. Bowler critiques the shallow pieties we often hear around illness and suffering. Bowler brings her intellectual and personal insights to the inaugural Scoper Lecture in Christian Thought, “UNFINISHED: The Wisdom of the Generative Self,”  to UVA (Old Cabell Hall) on Sunday, April 3rd, 2022 at 3:30pm.
